Green energy at Pentlands Community Space

Towards the end of 2021 Pentlands Community Space (PCS) was delighted to learn that the council’s planning department had approved its request to install Green energy in the building on the old derelict public toilet site in Juniper Green. Those of you passing the site will have seen the progress being made as the walls go up. When ready, the new accommodation will be heated and lit from the energy of an air source heat pump and solar PV panels.

It was a wonderful New Year present then to hear that the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) would support the project with a grant of £32,194, which is accepted with thanks.

A belated apology to those motorists caught up in the 4-way traffic light system in early December as Scottish Water put in a new water supply to the site. PCS wishes to thank Scottish Water for their prompt and swift action at a time when they were under pressure due to adverse weather conditions elsewhere in the country.

Thanks too are due to all those individuals, politicians and businesses who “Lit a Light” on the PCS digital Christmas Tree as advertised in the December edition of the C&B News. A grand total in excess of £800 was raised in the process.

Finally, as we roll into another year PCS is hopeful that this site will be completed and ready for use this year and a recent image is attached to show how things are starting to happen at the site.
