Pentlands Community Space saddened by premature death of its project manager

It was with great sadness that PCS learned of the sudden death of its project manager, Doug Harley, in February. Using his expertise in the building industry and offering his services freely, Doug in his quiet, professional way had been keeping a steady hand on the building project since he took over in April 2021. We will miss his calm assurance, rest in peace Doug. Our thoughts are with the family and especially his wife Claire.

Those of you who have passed the site recently will have seen scaffolding erected and the upper floor taking shape; an image is attached.

Material costs continue to rise with a combination of inflationary pressures. But, we had welcome news this week when Garfield Weston honoured their pledge of £20,000 as PCS neared its funding target. Our estimates are that if the further promises from two landfill operators come on stream, and material prices don’t rise too steeply, that we are close to completing the task set two years ago to transform the derelict public toilet site.
